Speaking skill is one of the
abilities which is very important in studying language because it is used to
express their idea, feeling or make a communication in the target language.
Dealing with the condition of learning English language, there must be some
ways and solution to improve the students’
speaking ability using the available teaching method, in this
case the researcher used Task Based Instruction to
improve students’speaking ability.
In this research, the problem is
“can the use task based instruction (TBI) improve students’ speaking ability of
the eight grade students’ at MTs nurussholah in academic year 2012 / 2013?”. The
hypothesis of the research is The use
of task based instruction (TBI) can improve students’ speaking ability of the
eight grade students’ of Nurussholah in academic year 2012 / 2013.
The design of this research is
classroom action research (CAR) which has four steps, those are: Planning, Acting, Observing and Reflecting.
Researcher uses speaking test to get data about students’ speaking ability, and
document to know the students’ speaking score before implementing the Task
Based Instruction.
Finally, after the action given in two cycles, the mean score of speaking
test is 64.4. In Cycle 2 the mean
score of speaking test is 67.8.
The percentage of students in Cycle 1 ( ≥ 65 is 64%) and in the
Cycle 2 (
≥65 is 80%). It means that the requirement
of 75% of the students’ active involvement and
achieve the standard score in the teaching learning
process is fulfilled.
It can be concluded that after
teaching learning English through task based
instruction (TBI) as well as the students active during the teaching learning
process of speaking ability class by giving them task based on the
instruction from the teacher which more suitable with the condition of
student’s and more interesting, because of that speaking ability of the eight grade
students at MTs Nurussholah is
improved.
